The 2019 Eagles: MTAC State Champs

Last fall, the Ezell-Harding Eagles football program embarked on a new adventure as they began play in 8-man football in the Middle Tennessee Athletic Conference (MTAC).  There were a lot of adjustments that that had to be made, but the experience for the student athletes, coaches and fans was fantastic.  Third year head coach, Dustin McGee, commented that “The first year of 8 man was extremely exciting and fun for me as a coach. There was so much to learn from a schematic standpoint and it was fun for myself and our coaching staff getting to be creative and solve problems week to week as we grew into our offensive and defensive systems. We learned so much in the first 4 games that really help us get better and compete at a high level in final 7 games.”

After going undefeated in league play, the Eagles advanced through the playoffs to face a tough Christian Community team that put up a fierce fight in non-district play earlier in the season.  The mighty Eagles won the 2019 MTAC championship by a final of 58-22.  Coach McGee was very complimentary of CCS: “CCS is always well coached and presents a challenge whenever you play them, and we look forward to competing with the Colts again this fall.”

On Friday night, September 4th, Ezell-Harding football begins the process of trying to defend it’s 2019 MTAC State Championship.  The Eagles realize that this will not be an easy task, but McGee feels good about his team.  “We have the talent and the desire to make it happen again,” McGee said.  “It is going to be fun watching these guys compete in 2020 with that confidence they gained last season.”
