As the beginning basketball season approaches, new head boys basketball coach, Michael Mays, is hard at work getting the boys prepared for the opening game on November 14th. As part of their pre-season preparation, Coach Mays and assistant basketball coach, Josh Slater, took the team to observe the men’s basketball team practice at Lipscomb University last Wednesday.
Both Coach Mays and Coach Slater are alumni of the Lipscomb University basketball program and their connections at LU run deep. As students of the game, the coaches asked the boys to come ready to watch and take notes of the things they saw at practice. They observed a high tempo practice from Coach Casey Alexander’s squad and were impressed with the level of focus and the speed of the game. Toward the end of practice, Coach Alexander came up and spoke to the guys and encouraged them toward the upcoming season. He expressed his
appreciation for Coach Mays and Coach Slater stating, “Ezell-Harding is in great hands, being led by two quality men that can teach the game of basketball. I’ve known Coach Mays and Coach Slater for many years and have great confidence they’ll do well. I have two boys myself and I would be pleased for them to be coached by these coaches.”
After practice, the team had a team meal together in the Lipscomb University student center before heading back to school. Ezell-Harding has always enjoyed a wonderful relationship with Lipscomb and are thankful that Coach Alexander and his staff welcomed us to campus.
